New Windmill Sailboat For Sale

Boat  -  Dagger board  --  Rudder

The story of the Windmill begins soon after Clark Mills designed the popular Optimist Pram. In response to a demand for a boat to

bridge the gap between the Pram and the Olympic racing classes, Mills designed the Windmill in 1953.

The  lightweight displacement planing hull, the high aspect ratio dagger board, the large sail area combined with simple & effective

adjustments to the sail shape resulted in one of the fastest and simplest racing boats ever to inspire an active

Class Association that continues to be enormously helpful to the members.

With minimum a hull weight of only 198 pounds, a sail Area of 119 sq. ft, the high aspect dagger board that extends 44 inches

below the keel, and a self-launching jib-pole, this boat is easy to sail, light to handle, and climbs up out of the

water and skims the surface in surprisingly low wind speeds.

The Windmill also has two full length flotation tanks which makes her easy to recover from a capsize with little water in the cockpit.

This particular Windmill features hardwood inlays and other hand crafted features

described on the Specifications page and shown on the Photographs page.

The Windmill is rated faster than all of the following centerboard Sailboats:

420 (Int. or Club), Albacore (15'), Blue Jay, Comet, Contender (Int.), Coronado 15, Force 5, FJ (Int.), Hunter 14 (JY14),

Hunter 170 no spin, Jet, Laser (Int.), Laser 2000, Laser 4.7 (Int.), Man O'War, Mariner 17, Moth, Optimist Pram (Int.),

Penguin, Rebel, Skipjack, Snipe (Int.), Sunfish (Int.), Tornado C/B, Vanguard 15, Viper, Wayfarer, Zenith, Zuma.
