Controls And Adjustments
While many of the other racing sailboats have a large number of adjustments, the Windmill was designed to be simple
while providing all the fundamental abilities to control the shape of the sails, the position of the dagger board,
the position & shape of the mast, and the ability of the jib to behave like a spinnaker or Genoa downwind.
The available controls are as follows:
Jib Halyard Tension |
Jib Luff Tension |
Height Of Mainsail |
Cunningham |
Vang |
Outhaul |
Shroud Lengths |
Mast Base Position |
Mast Position At Deck |
Traveler Height |
Amount Of Travel |
Dagger board Height & Angle |
The Windmill Class Association website has a section called WINDMILL TUNING NOTES in which there
are both simple guides and extensive discussions of theory and application.
The Windmill sailors are extremely helpful as individuals and as a group, in sharing their
experience in tuning for different sailing conditions.
